Topic: Use Your Gift!

Today’s Scripture: ‘God has given each of you a gift.’ – 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

Today’s Word: UCB Word For Today 18 August 2022

The Bible says: ‘God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God’ (v.10-11 NLT).

Some people think that you need to have a Damascus Road experience like Paul had, a sudden vision, or a flash of brilliant inspiration in order to know you’re ‘called’. Sometimes it might happen like that, but for the most part, the knowledge comes a lot more slowly and quietly.

The gifts God has given you are the keys to knowing what He wants you to do. You can’t always be what you want to be, but you can be what God calls you to be.

What do you love doing, and do well? Is music your forte? Crunching numbers? Working with kids? ‘The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving’ (1 Corinthians 12:7 CEV). That means some of the things other people find boring will actually energise and enrich you.

The Bible says that God is building a ‘spiritual house’ (1 Peter 2:5 KJV). And there’s a place for you in it. So don’t ever think you’re not valuable because you don’t have the same skills and talents that other people have.

And don’t ever think that you’re supposed to do everything, or that God expects you to be good at everything. Your goal is to stay within the boundaries of God’s plan for you (see 1 Corinthians 12:27 TLB). So today, instead of apologising for skills you don’t have, unpack the gifts God’s given you and put them to work.

What Now?

Unsure of your calling? Have a chat with God about the activities that really energise and inspire you. Ask Him how He wants you to use them, and pray for the next step you need to take with your skills.
