TOPIC: THE NEED FOR AN ANCHOR IN TIMES LIKE THESE (3)

CHRIST: THE ANCHOR FOR THE AFFLICTED, DOWNCAST, DOWNTRODDEN AND
DEPRESSED BELIEVERS

BIBLE TEXT: Genesis 26:1-2, 12, 16-22; 39:7-20; Psalms 34:17-19; John 16:1-3; 16:20-22; 2 Thel 1:6-11; 1 Peter 2:20; 5:10

Memory Verse: Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivereth him out of them ALL. Ps.34:19

Christians in different dispensations at one time or the other have been subjected to one form of affliction, persecution and untold hardship. Others have been tortured and imprisoned with the only option of obtaining freedom if they can say “Jesus is not Lord” but yet they held unto Christ as their Anchor choosing to suffer persecution for a season.
We live in a world that majority of people seem to have lost the sense of morals and Satan has taken the advantage to penetrate and advance his course. Brethren, we must be guided and determined to hold unto Him as our Anchor.

SOURCES OF AFFLICTION AMONG CHRISTIANS
1. SUCCESS: Gen. 26:16-22.; 39:2, 7-8, 21-22; 1 Sam. 18:6-12. Success that should ordinary bring joy to all often times attract jealousy in the camp of the enemies. Though hands join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. The Lord will always make a way of escape especially to those who trust and uphold Him as their Anchor. You will be fulfilled. It is just a function of time and you shall emerge stronger and fortified. Don’t attempt to surrender.

2. STANDING ON THE TRUTH: Gen 37:1-11, 18-20; Neh. 6:1-9; Job 1:1-9; Dan. 6:4-5,11-13; Matt. 4:3-4, 7; John 8:32. The ability to stand firm on the TRUTH, refuse to bow down to pressure and any form of negotiation that is contrary to the demands of the scriptures can lead to reproach, gang up against you, unsolicited scornful words etc. Nehemiah was scorned by his adversaries who never wanted progress. Yet he remained steadfast. Joseph was hated for the promising future that God repeatedly showed to him and as a result was sold out as a slave.

This singular decision by his brothers brought him down to the lowest ebb in life (imprisonment) yet he remained resolute, rejecting any juicy offer INCLUDING FREE SEX. But at last, he made it to the top. See Gen. 39:2. And the Lord was with Joseph as His Anchor. Charisma PROMOTES a man but godly character PRESERVES the same man on the throne. Our success in life should revolve around Christ our Anchor.

3. TRIALS, TESTS AND TEMPTATIONS: Ps. 34:17-19; 1 Pet. 4:12-14. We are all men of like passion subject to trials and tests. No Christian is a spiritual super being and hence can claim to be exempted from these. The building blocks of a spiritual champion are premised on the successes recorded over trials and tests. It is needful we state categorically that trials are rudiments for triumph while tests are essentials for testimonies. Neither trial nor test has what it takes to kill you. You will emerge tough and at the top. Judges 11:1-7
